2017 MONTREUX VOLLEY MASTERS
The third day of the Montreux Masters has concluded with the Netherlands downing Switzerland after dropping the first set, while Argentina shocked China in a five-set battle in Pool A. In Pool B, Germany continues their dominance in the tournament with a four-set victory over Thailand.
The Netherlands def. Switzerland
- 3-1, (23-25, 25-14, 25-18, 25-20)
The Netherlands kept themselves alive after dropping the first set to Switzerland to win in four. The Dutch side led in all statistical categories, blowing out the Swiss in blocks 16-2.
Celeste Plak and Tessa Polder each contributed 18 points in the win with Polder putting down four blocks.
For the losing side, Maja Storck put down 17 points while Laura Künzler added another 13.
Argentina def. China
- 3-2, (25-20, 18-25, 23-25, 25-23, 15-13)
The Argentinian squad was able to fight past China in a five-set battle, despite going down 1-2 in the match. The match was tight in the final three sets, with the fifth coming down to the wire, with Argentina coming out on top 15-13.
Paula Yamila Nizetich put down 18 points in the match with Elina Rodriguez and Emilce Sosa adding 17 and 16 points, respectively.
For China, Yuanyuan Wang put down a match-best 20 points while Xiangyu Gong added another 19 in the losing effort.
Germany def. Thailand
- 3-1, (25-22, 23-25, 25-19, 25-20)
The German squad continues their dominance in Montreux with a four-set victory over Thailand. Thailand out hit the Germans 66-60 and out dug them 70-48, but was no match to the German block that was 17-2 over Thailand.
Leading Germany was Louisa Lippmann with 31 points, including 27 kills, three blocks and one ace. Leonie Schwertmann added another 15 points with seven of the teams 17 blocks.
For Thailand, Ajcharaporn Kongyot put down 22 points while Pimpichaya Kokram adding 18 more points to their tally.
