AVCA Announces 3-Member Hall of Fame Class of 2018

The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) has announced its Hall of Fame class of 2018, which will see 3 members added as part of its 16th class. Jean KestersonGlen Lietzke, and Sue Sinclair will all be honored at the 2018 Jostens Coaches Honors Luncheon, which will be held at the 2018 AVCA Convention.

Jean Kesterson retired as the head coach of Cathedral High School in Indianapolis after the 2016 season. finishing with an 826-166 record at the school. She led the team to 8 Indiana state championships, 17 different 30-win seasons, and an undefeated 2015 season where they were declared national champions. Keterson was named the AVCA National High School Co-Coach of the Year that season. 20 of her teams had earned AVCA Team Academic Awards as well. In total, Kesterson had a 40-year coaching career.

Glen Lietzke had a 35-year coaching career that included in 1984 founding the Austin Juniors Volleyball Club, where he remains the Director and President of the club’s Board of Directors. With that club, he won the 2007 and 2011 USA Volleyball National Championships in the 17 Open category, and was named the 1998 George J. Fisher Leader in Volleyball Award winner.

He concurrently spent 18 years as an assistant at the University of Texas, during which time the Longhorns won an NCAA title and 12 conference titles.

Sue Sinclair is a former board member at both the AVCA and USA Volleyball who has spent the last 28 years as the head volleyball coach and Director of Athletics and Physical Education at NJCAA member Illinois Central College. Her teams have qualified for the  NJCAA National Tournament 18 times, winning the national championship in 2009.

Sinclair was inducted into the NJCAA Volleyball Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 2004, and as an athlete had 2,041 career assists at Southern Illinois.

The AVCA annually recognizes those individuals who have reached the pinnacle of their profession and the sport with the AVCA Hall of Fame. The first AVCA Hall of Fame class, a total of 23 individuals who had earned either the AVCA Founders Award or AVCA Excellence in Education Award, was honored at the 2003 AVCA Convention. These three will make a total of 80 members in the AVCA Hall of Fame. Longtime Florida State Head Coach Cecile Reynaud was named to enter the Hall of Fame in 2017, but will be formally inducted this year.
