2017 AVP Tour – Manhattan Beach Open

The AVP Tour’s annual stop in Manhattan Beach has turned into a Gold Series tournament this season. The Gold Series status moves the winnings and points won by each team up significantly. The first Gold Series event was held in New York City.

The Manhattan Beach Open will feature a 32 team format tournament, the largest of the season. There will be nine courts of play with the increased tournament size.

The tournament will begin on August 17 with the qualification phase, followed by the opening rounds on August 18. August 19 will start the elimination portion of the tournament with the semifinals and finals to be played on August 20 for both genders.

The men will feature a number of top contenders from previous AVP Tour stops, including Taylor Crabb and Jake Gibb who top the leaderboard with a combined 2,730 points. Billy Allen/Stafford Slick along with Phil Dalhausser/Nick Lucena and Trevor Crabb/Sean Rosenthal will also be in attendance of the Tour stop.

Dalhausser/Lucena and Casey Patterson and Theo Brunner will likely be using the tournament as a warm up prior to heading to Hamburg, Germany for the FIVB World Tour Finals that will take place shortly after the Manhattan Beach Open.

On the women’s side, April Ross and Lauren Fendrick will compete as the top-ranked team, having a combined 2,600 points on the Tour. Coming in right behind with 2,598 points are Emily Day and Brittany Hochevar. Also competing are Summer Ross and Brooke Sweat, who along with April Ross and Fendrick will be competing shortly before the FIVB World Tour Finals.
