Azerbaijan Wins Islamic Solidarity Games Gold Medal

BAKU 4th Islamic Solidarity Games

Azerbaijan won the women volleyball title at the BAKU 2017 Fourth Annual Islamic Solidarity Games on Thursday.

Azerbaijan defeated Turkey in the championship match 25-12, 23-25, 25-20, 25-21. After Azerbaijan cruised to a Set 1 win, Turkey used a 10-5 mid-set rally in Set 2 to go up 17-12 and held on for the win despite it taking six set point chances. Azerbaijan led Set 3 and 4 throughout en route to the gold medal.

Polina Rahomova managed 17 kills, while Odina Bayramova and Yelyzaveta Samadova added 16 and 11 respectively. Samadova also chipped in four blocks, while Rohimova served up six aces.

Meliha Ismailoglu put down 16 kills for Turkey, while Nursevil Aydinlar added 15.

Tajikistan defeated Kyrgyzstan 3-0 (25-10, 25-12, 25-16) for the bronze medal.

Men’s matches are still in the pool play stage.

 

Women’s Final Standings

Gold – Azerbaijan

Silver – Turkey

Bronze – Kirghizistan

Fourth – Tajikistan
