The second day of the Asian Men’s Club Volleyball Championships has ended, with all but one match of the day ending in a straight set victory.
Pool A
- Al-Bahri Sport Club def. Sri Lanka Ports Authority 3-0, (25-21, 25-21, 25-23)
Al-Bahri found their rhythm against Sri Lanka on the second day of the competition after being stunned by hosts Vietnam on day one. A number of easy mistakes committed by Sri Lanka gave Al-Bahri the opportunity to seize the chances and take the win.
“After going down to hosts Vietnam on Wednesday, my players improved a lot and played a good match against the Sri Lankans,” said Al-Bahri’s head coach Mohammed Awfi.
Pool B
- Bank Sarmayeh def. Taichung Commercial Bank 3-0, (25-19, 25-20, 25-21)
Bank Sarmayeh started off their competition with a three-set victory. The Iranian squad is looking to reclaim their 2016 Asian Men’s Club Championship title.
Since there are only the two teams in the pool, Bank Sarmayeh and Taichung Commercial Bank have already secured their position in the final eight of the competition.
Pool C
- Altay VC def. Canberra Heat 3-0, (25-8, 25-18, 25-16)
Altay picked up their second win of the competition over Canberra Heat in a three-set match. Vitaliy Voravodin put down 14 points in the win, while Canberra’s Matthew Aubrey contributed 11 points in the loss.
- Al Arabi Sports Club def. Yan Chai 3-0, (25-14, 25-15, 25-19)
Al Arabi continued their winning streak with a win over Yan Chai in straight sets, with Gyorgy Grozer being the top scorer with nine points while teammate Salvador Hidalgo Oliva added another eight.
For Yan Chai, Lee Man Sing and Lam Chun Kit put down nine and four points, respectively.
Pool D
- Beijing Baic Motor def. Air Force 3-2, (25-18, 25-21, 23-25, 16-25, 15-12)
After going up 2-0 in the match, Beijing struggled to keep hold of their lead over Air Force. Thailand’s team put up a fight, sending the match into a fifth and deciding set, where they were unable to secure their comeback win.
- Toyoda Gosei Trefuerza def. Maldivian Sports & Recreation Club 3-0, (25-14, 25-8, 25-14)
Toyoda Gosei rested their strong players in the match against the Maldivian crew, which didn’t deter their play at all, crushing the Maldives team in three-sets.
Tetsu Yamachika and Ryosuke Tsubakiyama each scored 12 points for Toyoda while Sajid Ismail put down 10 points for the Maldives.
