Boise State beach has officially announced their first scholarship recipient as graduate transfer Brindl Langley for the coming season.

Langley comes to the Broncos after playing for Florida Southern College over the past four seasons. While at Florida Southern College, Langley played with the school’s exhibition beach team, gaining the beach skills she needed to obtain the scholarship. On the court, Langley earned a number of awards over her four seasons with Florida Southern College. These include:

  • 2016 AVCA Honorable-Mention All-American and All-South Region
  • 2015 NCAA South Regional All-Tournament Team
  • 2016 All-Sunshine State Conference
  • 2013 SSC Freshman of the Year
  • 2013 SSC All-Newcomer Team
  • Two-time SSC Defensive Player of the Week

At libero, Langley played in a total of 134 matches for the Moccasins, where she helped the team to four NCAA DII National Tournament appearances. She finished her career as Southern Florida College’s all-time digs leader with 1,923 digs, third in digs per set with 3.91, tied for ninth with 161 aces, seventh in aces per set with 0.45 and fourth in sets played.

Beach volleyball is a fast-growing sport in the NCAA, but with many schools still not offering scholarships to their players. Boise State was a school that just recently made the move to add scholarships to their players following the cut of the school’s wrestling program that offset the Title IX stipulations. In accordance with NCAA rules, beach volleyball programs are allowed up to 6 full-ride scholarships that can be split up among its roster. Additionally, players that receive beach scholarships cannot participate on the indoor team because of scholarship limitations for the indoor program, but indoor players can play beach.

Last season, Boise State went 5-6 overall with a limited schedule, which included two wins over the University of Oregon. The program is expected to hand out more scholarships as they see fit, as they are now allowed the full 6 scholarships.
