2017 EUROPEAN MEN’S CHAMPIONSHIP

The Bulgarian men are 1-1 through their first two matches at EuroVolley 2017. They’ll play Slovenia on Monday in what will likely be a battle to determine 2nd and 3rd (though technically, if Spain got their first win of the tournament by beating unbeaten Russia, they could steal a spot, but that’s unlikely).

Barring that upset scenario, the winner of Slovenia-Bulgaria will play the 3rd-place team in Pool A, which could be either Finland, Poland, or Estonia, in the play-in match for the elimination bracket. The loser will play the #2 team from Pool A, which could also be any of those three teams.

Below, Bulgarian opposite Tsvetan Sokolov and libero Teodor Salparov discuss their team’s first two games of the tournament.

Salparov says that while they didn’t like their loss to Russia early in the tournament, they need to play tough matches to prepare themselves for the bigger games that are still to come in the tournament.
