The Cal volleyball team will play three scrimmages this spring, interim head coach Jennifer Dorr announced Thursday.
The Bears’ spring season begins April 14 with a trip to UC Davis followed by a visit to the state capitol for the Sac State Tournament on April 21. Cal wraps up spring competition by hosting USF on April 25.
The Bears have been going through spring workouts since the beginning of the spring semester in January. The spring has also seen the return of middle blocker Savannah Rennie, who missed last season while being treated for Non-Hodgkin Post-Transplant Lymphoma. Rennie also underwent a liver transplant in 2016 after being diagnosed with Congenital Hepatic Fibrosis with Portal Hypertension. She is expected to play in the scrimmages.
Cal returns three full-time starters from last season and seven other student-athletes with starting experience.
“The team is working hard on their specific skillsets and overall game throughout this spring training cycle,” Dorr said. “With the addition of these three competition dates, we look forward to gauging our progress. Competition allows the returning group to gain experience as a new unit, and the staff to evaluate overall training and goals.”
