The Cal Bears picked up a pair of 3-2 wins among the four collegiate beach volleyball matches played on Thursday. Cal moved to 10-4 on the season with victories over Loyola Marymount and Cal State Northridge in a tri-dual at the CSUN Beach Volleyball Facility. The wins snapped a three-match losing streak for the Bears, who had faced No. 6 Long Beach State, No. 3 ULCA and No. 1 USC earlier in the week.
“It was challenging to play as hard as we did and come out with losses against those top teams,” Cal coach Meagan Schmitt said on calbears.com. “The girls did a great job of putting that aside and taking care of business today.”
Wins at the No. 4 and No. 5 positions buoyed the Bears in both matches Thursday. A victory from the top pair (Mia Merino/Jessica Gaffney) sealed the win over Northridge, while it was a win at the No. 3 position (Bryce Bark/Camille Stepanof) that capped the win over LMU.
In the other portion of the tri-dual, Loyola Marymount defeated Northridge 5-0. The Lions were also coming off a loss to the No. 1 Trojans (March 22).

The fourth match of the day saw Saint Mary’s College meet Feather River College in a 5-0 sweep. The win was the fifth straight for the Gaels, including three via sweep.
