Charleston Southern head volleyball coach Christy Mooberry announced on Tuesday that Laura Grace Belote will join the Bucs’ program as assistant coach. Belote, who played volleyball at CSU from 2010-13, returns to Charleston after spending the previous three seasons as a graduate assistant volleyball coach at Belhaven University in Jackson, Miss.

“I think it brings something to the program to have someone who understands CSU and how it works and what our values are,” Mooberry said. “I really believe we are going to work well together. Just being able to trust in her character and who she is as a person is a big deal.”

Belote was a three-year captain of the CSU volleyball team and a Charleston Southern Christian Leadership award-winner in 2010, 2012 and 2013. She earned the Charleston Southern Volleyball Sportsmanship award in 2011, 2012 and 2013. Belote has experience coaching club volleyball in Mississippi, Georgia and South Carolina. She has participated in high performance volleyball coaching in the Mississippi Delta region.

“I’m excited about the opportunity to come back,” Belote said. “One of my greatest memories and things that I cherish most was playing in a Christian environment and the lifelong bonds that I was able to build with my teammates throughout my time here. I have been thankful to work with several great coaches and I’m looking forward to working with coach Mooberry and the Buccaneers.”

Mooberry is delighted to add a former player to her staff and believes that Belote will be a great fit with the program. She is excited about the future of CSU volleyball and Belote’s ability to lead student-athletes both in volleyball and life.

“I think Laura Grace will be a great fit because our philosophies match up,” Mooberry said. “She cares enough about the girls to challenge them, love on them, invest in them and push them. She’s not just trying to be their friend and she’s not just trying to be their coach. She wants to see them grow big picture on and off the court.”

Belote graduated from Charleston Southern in 2014 with a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology. She received her Master’s in Health Administration in 2017 from Belhaven University.
