Cindy Jones, who has spent the last 18 years as the head coach of the Russellville High School Cyclones, has retired as the team’s head coach. Her career included state titles won in 2005, 2012, and 2014, and a 2014 Arkansas Democrat Gazette Coach of the Year award.

Jones remains on as a World History teacher in the district, but told the Democrat-Gazette that it was “time to move on.”

“We’ve had a lot of success with the program, but I think it’s time to step aside and focus on some other things, some different challenges,” Jones said of the decision.

In her final season as coach, Russellville advanced to the 6A (second largest classification) state semifinals, where they fell 3-0 to Marion High School, who eventually fell to Jonesboro in the final. Russellville had two players make the 6A all-state team: senior opposite Bailey Wilbers and senior outside hitter Emily Posey.
