CSUN’s Arvis Greene Repeats As Big West Player Of The Week

Helping their clubs go 2-0 in conference play, Arvis Greene, Austin Wilmot and Simon Anderson mopped up the men’s volleyball weekly awards.

ARVIS GREENE, CSUN – PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Senior • Opposite • Los Angeles, Calif. • University HS

➜ CSUN senior Arvis Greene earned his second straight Big West Men’s Volleyball Player of the Week award – and his third this season – as he spearheaded a pair of upset wins over No. 3 Hawai‘i.

➜ The 6-foot-7 opposite hit .387 (32-8-62) in back-to-back 3-0 victories over the Rainbow Warriors.  CSUN last swept consecutive matches over UH in the Matadome in 1991 and last claimed a season home series from the ‘Bows in 2012.

➜ Greene slammed a match-high tying 18 kills on .438 hitting in the opener.  He added two digs and two total blocks.

➜ In the rematch, he knocked down 14 kills and hit .333 to go along with three digs and five total blocks (one solo).

➜ For the week, Greene averaged 5.33 kills, 0.83 digs and 1.17 blocks per set while also contributing 6.1 points per set.

AUSTIN WILMOT, UC IRVINE – DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

➜ UC Irvine freshman Austin Wilmot captures his first career Big West Men’s Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week award as he was a dominant force at the net in three wins.

➜ The 6-foot-9 outside hitter averaged 1.82 blocks over 11 sets as UCI swept George Mason and defeated UC San Diego twice.  He also had 12 kills, an ace and a dig over the three contests.

➜ His impact was felt most at the net.  He posted a career-high 13 total blocks in a five-set win over the Tritons.  Three of those stuffs came in the fifth set, including a solo block to put UCI up 10-9.

➜ Wilmot added four blocks against George Mason and three more in the opening match with UC San Diego.

SIMON ANDERSON, LONG BEACH STATE – FRESHMAN PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Middle Blocker • Middlefart, Denmark

➜ Long Beach State middle blocker Simon Anderson tallied his sixth Big West Men’s Volleyball Freshman Player of the Week honor as he helped keep the Beach undefeated at 19-0 with a pair of wins over No. 12 UC Santa Barbara.

➜ Anderson hit .625 on the week with 15 kills and no errors in 24 attempts.

➜ He hit .778 (7-0-9) in a four-set win at UCSB, adding three service aces.  He had eight kills, two digs and four block assists when the two teams met first in Long Beach.
