Dalhausser/Lucena Roll Through Competition During Day 1 Of AVP Opener

2017 AVP TOUR – HUNTINGTON BEACH OPEN

The main draw’s first day of the 2017 AVP Tour in Huntington Beach has come to a close with a few upsets and expected results on the men’s side of the tournament. A to-be-expected result came in the #1 and #3 seeds of the tournament advancing to the quarterfinal rounds.

The #1 seed of  Taylor Crabb and Jake Gibb started their day with a two-set sweep over the #16 Branden Clemens and Ben Vaught 2-0, (21-16, 21-19). Clemens and Vaught entered the main draw from the qualification round as the fourth seed. Crabb and Gibb moved on to play the #9 seed of Mark Burik and Avery Brost, who took down #8-seeded Ty Loomis and Ty Tramblie in the previous round. The match against Burik and Drost went to three sets, with Crabb and Gibb advancing with a 2-1, (19-21, 21-17, 15-12) comeback win.

Crabb/Gibb will face #5-seeded Billy Allen and Stafford Slick, who took down Crabb’s brother, Trevor Crabb and Sean Rosenthal in a three-set match.

Phil Dalhausser and Nick Lucena took care of their competition in the #3 slot, not dropping a match on the day. The pair will take on Ryan Doherty and John Hyden, who took down the #2 seed of Theo Brunner and Casey Patterson in a two-set sweep.
