Davidson’s Cockrell, VCU’s Sneed & Draper Tabbed for A-10 Accolades

NEWPORT NEWS, Va.— Davidson senior Ciera Cockrell was named the Atlantic 10 Conference Volleyball Player of the Week, while VCU junior Jasmin Sneed was named Defensive Player of the Week. VCU freshman Alyna Draper was selected as the league’s Rookie of the Week. All awards were for matches played Oct. 15-21.

Cockrell had a career-high 24 kills in Sunday’s 3-2 win at Rhode Island, including eight kills in the second set along with another four in the decisive fifth set. The outside hitter from Waxhaw, N.C., also recorded 22 kills in a 3-1 win over Fordham. For the week, she had 46 kills, averaging 5.11 per set.

Sneed averaged 2.43 blocks per set in wins against Rhode Island and Fordham last weekend. The middle blocker from San Antonio, Texas, recorded 17 blocks on the week including 12 blocks in a 3-1 win over Rhode Island. Sneed also hit .412 and averaged 2.43 kills per set as the Rams extended their winning streak to 10 matches.

Draper, a libero from Phoenix, Ariz., averaged 4.57 digs per set and served up four aces as the Rams defeated Rhode Island and Fordham this past weekend.
