2017 FIVB WORLD TOUR – POREC MAJOR

  • June 26 to July 2
  • Five-Star Event
  • Schedule

Three country quota matches took place on the first day of the Porec FIVB World Tour event. On the women’s side, there was one Brazilian and one American squad that competed, while only one men’s team, from Brazil, played in a country quota match.

The winners of the country quota matches move on to the qualification round of the tournament, which is set to begin tomorrow. Concluding the qualification tournament, the main draw will begin on June 28, where the teams will have a shot at the $600,000 purse prize.

Women

Brazil -Taiana Lima/Elize Maia def. Maria Antonelli/Carolina Salgado 2-1, (18-21, 21-14, 15-13)

Lima/Maia sought out revenge in the match, as they had been set back by Antonelli/Salgado in Moscow and The Hague just weeks ago. The loss of the match eliminated Antonelli/Salgado from the tournament.

USA – Emily Day/Brittany Hochevar def. Kerri Walsh Jennings/Nicole Branagh 2-0, (21-16, 21-16)

In a much-anticipated return match for Walsh Jennings, her and new partner, Branagh could not get past Day/Hochevar to move on in the tournament. Day/Hochevar will compete in the qualifier round of the tournament tomorrow, while Walsh Jennings/Branagh will have to wait for the next FIVB World Tour event to compete.

Men

Pedro Solberg/Gustavo ‘Guto’ Carvalhaes def. Vitor Felipe/George Wanderley 2-1, (15-21, 21-19, 15-9)

Solberg/Carvalhaes continue their dominance over Brazilian rivals Felipe/Wanderley after they defeated them in Moscow a month ago in another three-set match to move on in the tournament.
