Dayspring Christian Academy Wins First Ever Colorado State Title

Five Colorado high school competed and won their classes state championship. The state tournament took place for the schools on November 10-12 at the Denver Coliseum.

There were two first time state champion winner, to veteran teams to the tournament, winning previous state titles.

Class 1A

Fleming won their sixth state championship after defeating Kit Carson in straight sets 3-0, 25-19, 25-15, 25-20.

Alli Keisel hammered down 12 kills and picked up 12 digs for a double-double in the win for Fleming. Also posting a double-double was Kalyn Serrato with 34 assists and 11 digs. From the back row, Bailey Chintala picked up a match-best 35 digs, while Shaylee Johnson added 16.

For Kit Carson, Tess Hornung put down 13 kills and 27 digs for a double-double.

Class 2A

Dayspring Christian Academy took home their first ever state title with a four set victory over defending champions Yums 3-1, 25-22, 21-25, 25-22, 25-15.

Dayspring had two players that dominated the floor with double-doubles. Katie Kurz put down 28 kills and 16 digs, while Megan Roberts added 24 kills and 14 digs. Setter Kelsi Donoho also recorded a double-double with 56 assists and 19 digs.

For Yuma, three players also recorded double-doubles. Cody Robinson put down 15 kills and picked up 26 digs, Chasey Blach added 17 kills and 22 digs, while setter Kenedy Roth dished out 32 assists and 10 digs.

Class 3A

Eaton took down Valley for the third year in a row in three sets 3-0, 25-14, 25-18, 25-19.

Eaton’s Tarynn Sieg led the offense with 16 kills, with Makenzie Harris adding 14 kills. Courtney Leafgren picked up a match-best 22 digs.

Brooke Schilling put down 10 kills for Valley.

Class 4A

Lewis-Palmer defeated Holy Family in a three set sweep for their third title in four years 3-0, 25-10, 25-20, 25-21.

Michaela Putnicki recorded a double-double for Lewis-Palmer with 15 kills and 10 digs, while Lydia Bartalo added 15 kills and 13 digs. Gianna Bartalo picked up 21 digs.

Rachel Siurek led the Holy Family offense with 10 kills, while Sam Weber picked up a match-best 29 digs.

Class 5A

Fossil Ridge wins programs first state title in a five set showdown over Mountain Vista 3-2, 25-21, 19-25, 22-25, 25-19, 15-10.

Riley Zuhn led the way for Fossil Ridge with 23 kills on a .472 hitting percentage, she also contributed four solo blocks. Mataya Megson added 10 kills, while Lauren Rice picked up 17 digs.

Leading the Mountain Vista offense was Alyssa Oswald with 17 kills, while Sam Novak picked up a match-best 28 digs.
