After confirmation of a two-star tournament for men in 2018 and the possibility of changing to a three-star double-gender event in 2019 and 2020, Doha, Qatar has become the latest city to join the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour.

The Qatar Volleyball Federation President Ali Ghanim Al-Kuwari signed an agreement with the FIVB Beach Volleyball Events Director Angelo Squeo to confirm the three-year deal in an elaborate signing ceremony.

The tournament is likely to be held in February or March and will be a part of the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Qualification process. The event will be staged at the colosseum in the Katara cultural village – located on the eastern coast between West Bay and the Pearl in Doha.

With the growing of beach volleyball in Qatar itself and the region, the FIVB Beach Volleyball Worl Tour’s return to the area is more likely in years to come. In the past years, Qatar has done well in beach volleyball competition, making it into the 2016 Rio Olympic Games after winning the Continental qualification event.

In the past, Doha has hosted three FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour Men’s event’s from 2014-16.
