2017 NCAA BEACH CHAMPIONSHIPS

Day 2 of the 2017 NCAA Beach Volleyball Championships got underway with a pair of contender’s bracket matches. No. 4 seed Florida State and No. 5 Hawai’i advanced and will face each other at 5 p.m. ET. The day’s action also will include a match between No. 1 seed USC and No. 3 seed Pepperdine in the winner’s bracket.
Contender’s bracket – #4 Florida State def. #2 UCLA 3-1
UCLA won the first point of the day, taking the No. 3 pairing with Torrey Van Winden and Elise Zappia winning in straight sets. Florida State rebounded to take court 4 and court 2 and pulling off an upset on Court 1 to secure the victory. Brooke Kuhlman and Leigh Andrew trailed 12-9 in the decisive third set before battling back to steal away the 17-15 win and upset of the McNamara twins to give the Seminoles the match.

Contender’s bracket – #5 Hawaii def. #7 LSU 3-0
Hawaii made quick work of newcomer LSU, winning the first set on three of the five courts, and going on to take courts 2, 3 and 4 in straight sets to advance. Carly Kan and Ari Homayun got things started for the Rainbow Wahine, taking the No. 4 pairing 21-12, 21-13. Nearly simultaneous finished on courts two and three ended the match as Emily Maglio and Laurel Weaver and Ka’iwi Schucht and Nikki Taylor picked up the straight set wins.
