After four weeks of non-conference competition, two tournaments, three matches affected by weather and six victories, the No. 19 Florida State volleyball team begins its ACC schedule this weekend, starting with Virginia and Virginia Tech.
The Seminoles will host the Virginia Cavaliers on Friday (Sept. 22) at 6:30 pm, and the Virginia Tech Hokies on Sunday (Sept. 24) at 1:00 pm. Both matches will stream live on ACC Network Extra.
Since the Seminoles joined the ACC in 1991, the team has won 30 regular season conference matches against the Cavaliers and 17 against the Hokies. Florida State heads into the 2017 conference season holding the most overall conference wins in the ACC with 147 victories, as well as the best winning percentage in the ACC with .825.
In the preseason ACC coaches poll, Florida State was picked to finish second behind the 2016 conference champions, the North Carolina Tar Heels.
Seminoles Stat Leaders
The Seminoles’ offense will be led by senior outside hitter Milica Kubura, who is currently averaging 3.70 kills per set, with 111 kills on 263 total attacks already this season. Senior Natasha Calkins follows right behind her outside counterpart, averaging 3.44 kills per set (110 total) so far this season.
The offense has been supported by junior setter Brianne Burkert this season, as the Seminoles’ lead setter has already notched 309 assists (9.66 assists/set). Burkert has also recorded a double-double in seven of the eight matches the team has played so far, and has now recorded 20 double-doubles in her career.
On the defensive side, senior libero Cecilie Woie leads the team with 149 digs (4.66 digs/set). Burkert follows right behind her with 11 digs (3.47) already this season. Freshman middle blocker Taryn Knuth has been holding down the defense in the front row, leading the Seminoles with 40 total blocks (1.25 blocks/set) this season.
