Florida State beach volleyball’s Macy Jerger was named the Coastal Collegiate Sports Association (CCSA) Scholar Athlete of the Year on Wednesday.
The sophomore from Fort Myers, Fla., was also a unanimous selection to the CCSA All-Academic Team honors.
“I am extremely proud of Macy for winning this award.” Florida State head coach Brooke Niles said. “It is a true testament of the type of athlete and person she is. We ask our players to strive for excellence in all areas of academics and athletics. She really is the epitome of that and is a great example for all of her teammates.”
In order to be eligible for consideration on the CCSA All-Academic team, a student-athlete must have a cumulative 3.3 GPA (either during her undergraduate or graduate studies) and have one year of residence at the institution.
As a freshman in 2016 Jerger was a member of the CCSA and ACC Academic Honor Roll. Jerger is currently majoring in Biology and holds a 3.80 GPA.
She has played an integral part in the team’s success this season as she has spent most of her time at the No. 3 position, posting a 21-7 record in dual-matches. Along with playing partner junior Victoria Paranagua, the duo recorded a 19-7 record and came away with CCSA Pair of the Week honors for week two of the 2016 season.
Jerger and the rest of the Seminole beach volleyball team will head to Emerson, Ga., this weekend for the CCSA Conference Championship. The top-seeded Noles will open competition against UNCW on Friday at 9 a.m. at the Lakepoint Sporting Community.
