Florida State beach volleyball’s Katie Horton and Francesca Goncalves earned their second CCSA Pair of the Week honor after posting a 3-0 record this past weekend.
Horton, a redshirt junior, and Goncalves, a freshman, helped lead the fourth-ranked Seminoles to a 3-1 record at the FSU-hosted Alumni Weekend event in Tallahassee. All three of their matches came on Saturday against Top-15 teams including two 3-2 wins over No. 9 Grand Canyon and No. 14 FIU.
The Seminole duo, who played at the number three and four position all weekend, were responsible for FSU’s only point in a 4-1 setback to No. 2 Pepperdine on Saturday afternoon.
Horton and Goncalves opened with a straight-set victory over Grand Canyon’s Tyanna Roy and Anna Unnasch, 21-11, 21-12, before another straight-set victory over FIU’sMariana De Paula and Mackemzie Walker, 21-11, 21-18. They finished off the weekend with one last straight-set victory over Pepperdine’s Deahna Kraft and Anika Wilson, 21-11, 21-15.
This marks the fourth time that a Seminole pair has won the CCSA Pair of the Week award this season, and the second time Horton and Goncalves have been honored together (March 21). Goncalves also paired with junior Vanessa Freire to win the award last week (April 11), while junior Victoria Paranagua and sophomore Macy Jerger picked up the honor on Mach 14.
