The Confederation Europeenne de Volleyball (CEV) has announced the game schedule for the 2017 men’s European indoor volleyball championships, or EUROVOLLEY2017.
A pair of games on opposite sides of the country will start the tournament on Thursday August 25th. Finland and Estonia will play in Pool A in Gdansk, while Bulgaria and Russia matchup in Krakow in Pool C.
Then the big show comes later that night at 8:30 local time when Poland and Serbia will play the official opening match in the 70,000 seat PGE National Stadium in Warsaw. That will be the only game of the tournament played in Warsaw, and organizers are hoping to surpass the 61,500 spectators drawn for the same slot at the 2014 FIVB Men’s World Championships.
The tournament will then play on straight through to the gold medal match on Sunday, September 3rd, with off days on August 29th and September 1st.
Aside from the opener between world #2 Poland and World #10 Serbia, other highlight matches of pool play:
- #4 Italy vs. #11 Germany on Friday, August 26th at 8:30
- #16 Bulgaria vs. #30 Slovenia, both of whom were semi-finalists in the 2015 edition of the tournament (with Slovenia advancing, and losing to France, in the final).
