Georgetown Hosts Villanova For Dig Pink Match

Georgetown University’s volleyball team returns to the Hilltop to host Villanova in BIG EAST action on Saturday evening. The match will also serve as the Dig Pink contest for the Hoyas.

First serve is scheduled for 6 p.m. Live stats and a paid video broadcast will be available at www.GUHoyas.com with Monika Moore calling the play-by-play.

The Hoyas (7-10, 1-4 BIG EAST) are coming off a 3-1 (25-18, 17-25, 25-21, 25-16) loss at Seton Hall on Wednesday night. Three different GU players recorded double-digit kills against the Pirates, led by Symone Speech (Oak Park, Ill./Oak Park-River Forest) with 14. Alyssa Sinnette (Pearland, Texas/Dawson)added 12 while Riley Wertzberger (Dallas, Texas/Richardson)notched 10. Paige McKnight (Atlanta, Ga./Dunwoody) paced the offense with 44 assists to go with five kills and five digs.

Kenzie Higareda (Woodbridge, Va./Forest Park) and Margo Pivonka (Broadview Heights, Ohio/Walsh Jesuit) both had eight digs for the Blue & Gray while Werztberger was credited with a career-high four blocks.

Speech continues to lead the Blue & Gray with a 3.61 kills per set and his hitting at a BIG EAST-best .410 clip. Sinnette adds 2.54 kills a frame from the outside. McKnight paces the GU offense with 9.49 assists per set and is second on the team in service aces (14) and digs (2.50 dps).

Defensively, Higareda is second in the BIG EAST with 4.04 digs per set while Speech protects the front row with 0.77 blocks per set.

Villanova (10-6, 3-2 BIG EAST) has won three-straight matches in league play and has a pair of players averaging over three kills per set with Allie Loitz and Mallory Potts contributing 3.55 and 3.17, respectively. The Wildcats also have another three players with at least two kills a frame. Emma Decker paces the VU offense with an even 10.00 assists per frame.

Defensively, Regan Lough leads Villanova with 4.02 digs per set while three other Wildcats chip in at least two a stanza.

Georgetown and Villanova have played each other 54 times in program history with the Hoyas owning a 30-24 advantage in the series. The two teams split their showdowns last year, winning on each other’s home courts.

Following Saturday’s match, the Hoyas hit the road once again as they head to the Big Apple to face St. John’s on Wednesday, October 11, at 6 p.m.
