The German Volleyball Federation brings in a new trainer, Martin Olejnak, to help the beach team prepare for the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.

Olejnak will begin as the new trainer for the mean’s beach team starting in January. He is one of the most successful trainers in the beach circuit, responsible for leading the Polish men’s pairs to the top of the rankings in the World Tour and in the Olympic Games.

The 46-year-old Slovakian led the Schwaigers sisters Doris and Stefanie to the Beijing 2008 and London 2012 Olympic Games. The pair finished fifth in each time at the Olympics.

“The commitment of Olejnak is a positive sign on out approach on the new structure to get the support of high-level coaches and the concentration of national teams at one location,” said national federation president Thomas Krohne. “Olejnak has proven for years that he is an absolute expert, and his team have all gone to the top.”

The new structure in beach volleyball provides that three national teams and one club per gender are centralized at a federal support center to ensure a strong training group.

“Olejnak’s experience and philosophy brings unparalled quality,” national federation vice-president Dr. Andreas Kunkler said. ” He was out best prospect and we are glad that we can have him in the new system.”

Olejnak sees much potential in the younger German beach generation.

“German men’s teams have stayed a bit behind expectations in the past two years,” said Olejnak. “But there is a younger generation that have very good potential and they are willing to work hard.”
