Iowa volleyball capped the nonconference portion of its schedule with a Cyclone Classic team championship. The Hawkeyes went 3-0, notching its first win at Iowa State since 1997 as part of the Iowa Corn Cy-Hawk Series in 4 sets, a win over Wyoming in 4 sets and a victory against Syracuse in 5 sets.

Senior outside hitter Taylor Louis secured MVP accolades and was joined on the all-tournament team by fellow seniors right side hitter Reghan Coyle and libero Molly Kelly.

Syracuse registered wins over Wyoming (3-2) and Iowa State (3-2) for a 2-1 mark. Wyoming and Iowa State went 0-3 on the weekend.

All-Tournament Team

Tournament Notables

  • Iowa had 3 seniors named to the Cyclone Classic all-tournament team, including MVP Taylor Louis, Reghan Coyle and Molly Kelly. Louis contributed 55 kills (4.2 per set) and 20 digs (1.5 per set) and hit .271 or better in each match. Coyle posted 35 kills (2.7 per set), 14 digs (1.1 per set) and 7 blocks (0.5 per set), while Kelly tallied 66 digs (5.1 per set) and 14 assists (1.1 per set).
  • Hawkeye head coach Bond Shymansky was in graduate school the last time Iowa defeated Iowa State in Ames, Iowa. The date of that match: Sept. 13, 1997.
  • Iowa has gone undefeated in the last two weekends and brings a 6-match win streak into the Big Ten season. The Hawkeyes were chosen to finish 8th in the preseason by VolleyMob.
  • Syracuse saw two players earn all-tournament team recognition, including Santita Ebangwese and Jalissa Trotter. Ebangwese notched 38 kills (2.5 per set) 10 digs (0.7 per set) and 9 blocks (0.6 per set), while Trotter distributed 106 assists (7.1 per set) and logged 30 digs (2.0 per set).
  • The Orange completed a comeback victory at Iowa State by hitting .733 in the 5th set. Syracuse has played in 5 5-set matches thus far in 2018, establishing a 3-2 mark when going the distance.
  • Wyoming’s Madi Fields was the final all-tournament team selection. She recorded 67 digs (5.6 per set).
  • Iowa State has been without sophomore middle blocker Meegan Hart for 9 matches and sophomore middle blocker Avery Rhodes for 4 matches due to injury. Despite missing a pair of middles, the Cyclones’ are averaging 2.8 blocks per set and have 136 on the season (25 BS, 222 BA).
