HOUSTON — University of Houston Volleyball Head Coach Kaddie Platt announced the addition of JD Perez as the program’s volunteer assistant coach on Wednesday afternoon.

“I am excited to welcome JD into the Houston Volleyball family,” Platt said. “He is very passionate about volleyball, and his background both as a player and coach in the sport will add depth to our staff.”

In his role, Perez will assist the full-time staff in all aspects of training and practices.

Perez comes to Houston with over 14 years of experience as a coach in the club volleyball circuit, most recently serving as the head coach with Houston Stellar for its 11 and 17 Premier teams. He also held coaching stints with Texas Revolution, Houston Southwest Heat and Texas Airborne.

Perez played volleyball at Newman University and continues to play adult and beach volleyball for USVA.

The Cougars went 12-16 in 2017, including an 8-12 mark in American Athletic Conference action. The team was picked to finish eighth in the AAC preseason poll.

Houston kicks off the 2018 season at the University of New Orleans Invitational on Friday and Saturday, facing Murray State, Nebraska-Omaha and the host Privateers.

Houston is slated to face eight 20-win teams in 2018. The Cougars are set for 14 home matches, including the Flo Hyman Collegiate Cup and nine AAC contests.
