Background

The Hubert Jerzy Wagner Memorial is perhaps men’s volleyball’s most prestigious friendly competition. It has been organized and played in Poland every year since 2013 in honor of the best volleyball coach in Polish volleyball history, Hubert Jerzy Wagner, who won the 1974 FIVB Men’s Volleyball World Championship and the Olympic gold in 1976. This year, the tournament will be played in Krakow’s Tauron Arena from August 24 to 26. France, Russia, and Canada received invitations to participate in it.

Schedule

The Hubert Jerzy Wagner Memorial is still more than 5 months away, but its schedule has already been published to the sports media. The tournament, a round robin competition, will run from August 24-26 and will have games as follows (Siatka.org):

24/08 (Friday)
France – Russia
Poland – Canada

25/08 (Saturday)
Poland – France
Russia – Canada

26.08 (Sunday)
France – Canada
Poland – Russia

Here is how the Hubert Jerzy Wagner Memorial reacted to the schedule:

“The composition of this year’s edition of the memorial is so strong, even the schedule guarantees emotions until the very end. Every day of the tournament is a guarantee of great volleyball spectacles in which it will be difficult to indicate the favorite team. The best proof of this was last year’s duels: our team was able to beat Canada in three sets, which in turn won 3: 0 against France. Three days earlier, they had succumbed to Russia, although on the first day they defeated Poland. It was one of the toughest tournaments in fifteen years of history and this year we are counting on a repeat.” – Hubert Jerzy Wagner Foundation’s vice-president Cezary Mróz
