Illinois volleyball head coach Chris Tamas has named Alfred Reft as the newest assistant coach for the Fighting Illini volleyball program.

“In the search process, it was extremely important to me to have somebody with top notch playing and coaching experience,” said Tamas. “In my opinion, floor defense and passing wins championships. Alfee has extensive experience with training these skills at the highest level. He has spent the last decade playing and coaching with USA Volleyball. He has also spent the last six years coaching players at his former high performance training facility. With Alfee’s training background, relentless work ethic, and his defensive expertise he will help take Illinois to the next level. I am excited to add Alfee to our already tremendous staff.”

“I would like to express my sincerest thanks to Coach Tamas, his staff and the administrators at the University of Illinois for the opportunity to be a part of this great program and institution,” said Reft. “I am beyond humbled to be a part of a program with the history and success that Illinois has to offer and look forward to continuing its success with Coach Tamas and staff.”

Reft comes to Illinois after spending the last two years serving as a volunteer for the USA Women’s and Men’s National teams and assisted in the running of daily practices with technical feedback to players, while also working as assistant director and head coach of Team Rockstar Volleyball Club from 2014-18, where he organized club training methodologies and managed teams, parents and season duties for the club.
