ISU’s Jess Schaben To Transfer To LSU Beach Following 2018 Season

Iowa State junior, Jess Schaben has announced her decision to play beach volleyball at LSU following the conclusion of the 2018 NCAA women’s season.

The outside hitter out of Defiance, Iowa has had a big career with the Cyclones, picking up a number of awards in her three years with the team. Among her top honors with the Cyclones, Schaben has been named an AVCA Honorable Mention All-American and All-Big 12 First Team member in 2016 and 2017. In her freshman season, she was a standout, earning the AVCA Midwest Region Freshman of the Year and Big 12 Freshman of the Year.

So far in her career, Schaben has put down 1,032 kills for an average of 3.32 kills per set, along with 643 digs, improving drastically each season. Her role with the team expanded from a mainly front row player to an all-around threat on offense and defense.

LSU beach broke out to a top-contending team during the 2017 season, starting off in the top-10 of the rankings and improving to end the year at #7. This year, the team has struggled again a number of top opponents, starting the year at #6 and are now sitting at #10 with a 12-9 record after going 27-8 in 2017.

Schaben’s announcement to extend her college playing days came from an Instagram post:
