Conegliano‘s 3-2 win over Modena was special in many ways. The team had to come back from behind 1-0 and 2-1, and then again at the tie break, where it trailed at all decisive moments, to score a win that solidified its first place on A1’s standings with a 17-2 record.

Robin de Kruijf was perhap’s the most responsible for the team’s triumph, shelling a performance that included 12 blocks, just one shy of Sarah Fahr‘s record of 13 set earlier in the year, and making her only 1 of 4 players to perform such a feat in the rally era (Fahr, Sara Poljak, and Raphaela Pholie being the other 3, with Antonela Bragagia, Natalia Bozhenova, and Maria Remati blocking 12 or more shots in the side-out era). When it was all said and done, she helped Conegliano to outblock Modena 20 to 3 in the game.

Kruijf is having a dominating season for Conegliano, as she currently ranks 4th in the league at 0.78 blocks per set and is third in MB rating. Internationally, she helped the Dutch national team to reach a silver medal finish at the 2017 CEV European Championship, thus winning her third silver medal in the competition (2009, 2015, and 2017). At only 26 years of age and already playing at Europe’s highest level, the 6’4 middle blocker is shaping up to be one of the world’s best middle blockers.

This A1 season has already seen another impressive blocking performance, as Vero Volley’s Francesca Devetag had 10 blocks in only 3 sets of play against Scandicci.
