Italian Men: 2 Calzedonia Players Post 20+ Points In Win Over Ravenna

Round 7 saw some hefty scores from the Italian men’s league, with many matches having sets extend way beyond the necessary stopping points. Calzedonia Verona and Bunge Ravenna posted the longest match in Italian Serie A1 history at 2 hours 42 minutes, with sets taking nearly 3/4 of an hour to complete.

Sir Safety Conad Perugia came out to take down Diatec Trentino in straight sets after having their match postponed three days due to their participation in the 2018 CEV Champions League where they took down Shakhtior Soligorsk to move onto the fourth round.

Round 7 was a challenge for Calzedonia Verona, as they took a hard-fought early lead over Bunge Ravenna, with all signs pointed at a sweep. Bunge Ravenna, however, fought their way back into it to force a fifth and deciding set. That final set was a nailbiter, as the score went well past the designated 15 points to win, with Calzedonia fighting for the 20-18 fifth set victory. The match was also the longest in Italian Serie A1 history at 2 hours 42 minutesStephen Maar led the squad with 23 points in the win while Toncek Stern posted 20 along with Federico Marretta and Alen Pajenik‘s 13 and 10 points.

Cucine Lube Civitanova continued their winning ways with a four-setter over Biosi Indexa Sora. Dragan Stankovic and Tsvetan Sokolov each recorded 14 points in the win.

After falling in four to Cucine Lube Civitanova in round 6 of play, Azimut Modena redeemed themselves to take a four-set decision over Top Volley Latina. Maarten Van Garderen posted a team-best 18 points in the win with Earvin Ngapeth close behind with 17. Giulio Sabbi chipped in 15 points while Max Holt recorded another 11 points for Azimut.

Kioene Padova had two players record more than 20 points in their four-set win over Gi Group Monza – Gabriele Nelli (28) and Luigi Randazzo (21). Lazar Cirovic was close behind with 17 points.

Aaron Russell led Sir Safety Conad Perugia to a sweep over Diatec Trentino with 15 points while Aleksandar Atansijevic and Ivan Zaytsev added another 12 and 11 points in the win.
