Italian Volleyballer Federico Nicolini Given 5-Month Doping Suspension

Italian volleyball player Federico Nicolini has been given a 5-month suspension by the Italian anti-doping authority after failing a doping test for a banned substance, the nature of which was not provided.

Nicolini was given a reduced penalty from the maximum 4 years according to anti-doping rules by both proving a lack of fault for the substance, and by further substantiating how accidental ingestion may have occured.

His suspension officially began on July 19th, 2018 and will expire on October 18, 2018. In addition, he was ordered to pay a fine of €378.00 (USD 439).

The 26-year old Nicolini has spent most of his career playing in the lower leagues, including last season with Ama San Martino in the National B Series, the third tier of professional volleyball in the country.
