January 20 Recap: UCI Takes Five Set Win Over GCU and More

#6 LOYOLA DEF. SFU 3-0, (25-20, 25-15, 25-18)

Loyola hit .303 as a team on Saturday as they swept Saint Francis. Jeff Jendryk and Collin Mahan led the Ramblers to victory with 10 kills a piece, hitting .769 and .200, respectively.

LINDENWOOD (RV) DEF. QUINCY 3-1, (25-21, 18-25, 30-28, 25-20)

Lindenwood squeaks past Quincy in a four-set match in Quincy’s first competition of the 2018 MIVA season. Adam Brewster recorded a double-double with 48 assists and 13 digs in the match.

#10 LEWIS DEF. BENEDICTINE 3-0, (32-30, 25-12, 25-21)

After a close first set, Lewis swept Benedictine to hand them their first loss of the season. Dalen Instenes carried the offense with 20 kills on the match.

#4 UCI DEF. #13 GCU 3-2, (22-25, 25-17, 17-25, 25-19, 15-13)

UCI earned a tough fought win over Grand Canyon, winning the fifth set 15-13. Karl Apfelbach led the squad with 17 kills, with 12 of those posted in the last three sets.

#17 BALL STATE DEF. HARVARD 3-1, (25-22, 23-25, 25-21, 25-9)

After dropping the second set, Ball State bounced back and ended the four set match 25-9. Three Cardinals recorded double-figure kills in Matt Szews (13), Matt Walsh (12), and Ben Chinnici (10).
