It has been a record-breaking 2017 season for the King University men’s volleyball team, and the Tornado made more history with a sweep of Pfeiffer University on Tuesday night. The 3-0 win gave King their 12th straight win and 11th win in Conference Carolinas play, both program records.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- King scored 10 straight points to turn a 4-1 deficit into an 11-4 lead in the first set. Dalton Johnson started the spurt with a kill before teaming up with Adam Krzos for a block.
- Jeff Sprayberry capped the run with a service ace following a Sean Luhmann kill.
- King later scored six consecutive points, taking the set 25-6.
- The Tornado used a pair of long runs to jump out to a 12-2 lead in the second set. The burst concluded with a 6-0 run which was capped with a block from Krzos and Chris Gerber.
- Ryan DeLong gave King the set, 25-17 with a one of his eight kills in the match.
- The third set was close, but King closed out the match with a 3-0 spurt.
- Gerber teamed up with Chandler Christy for a stuff, giving King the set 25-18 and the match 3-0.
- Johnson and DeLong led King with eight kills apiece. DeLong hit .368 in the match and Johnson added six blocks.
- Matthew DeLong handed out 27 assists to go along with six digs.
- Krzos led the defense with nine digs while Gerber posted five blocks.
FOR THE FOES
- Jesse Print led Pfeiffer with nine kills and Corbin Keller added seven kills.
- Hunter Gray handed out 17 assists while Noah Beane had 15 digs.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- The win gives King their 12th straight win, the longest winning streak in program history. The Tornado last won 11 straight contests in 2010.
- It also marks the most Conference Carolinas wins in program history at 11. King last won 10 conference matches in 2015.
UP NEXT
- King returns home to face Emmanuel College at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Tornado then host Erskine College at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday afternoon.
- Pfeiffer next hosts Barton College on Saturday afternoon.

The second place team in Conference Carolinas, King Tornado (22-2, 11-1 CC) swept the Pfeiffer Falcons(0-13, 0-12 CC) in three sets inside Merner Gymnasium on Tuesday night.
After falling handily to King 25-6 in the first set, Pfeiffer made it a competitive game in set two as they fell behind early 12-3. Joe Wilber was a part of three of four Falcon points, as he had two assists and a kill to cut the Tornado lead to 14-8.
Later in the set two, the Falcons continued to play from behind and were still fighting as cut the King lead to smallest of the set, 21-16 with a double block from Trent Tursich and Wilber, but the Tornado were able to pull away to win the set 25-17.
Set three, King took the first two points, but then Pfeiffer came back to rally of two of their own with a kill from Pfeiffer match leader(9), Jesse Print. Pfeiffer and King traded points as the Falcons kept it close at 12-10. Print, Corbin Keller and Roberto Soares all helped in the sequence.
At 16-12, King started to pull away but the Falcons again hung in their strong as they won consecutive points off of Tornado errors to make it 16-14. The talented Tornado pulled away late in the set and go onto win 25-18.
Again, Print led the Falcons with nine kills and Keller added seven on the evening. Libero Noah Beane dug 15 balls and added his first career kill. Wilber also added a season-high four kills on .273 hitting. Gray led the Falcons in assists with 17.
Pfeiffer returns to action on Saturday as they host Barton at 4 p.m. inside Merner Gymnasium.
