Kuzbass Kemerovo’s opposite hitter Sergei Nikitin has gone down with an unspecified injury, according to Russian website Gazeta.ru. Up until now, Nikitin has been an important piece of Kuzbass’ rotation, contributing with a solid 7.4 points per game in 43% hitting. In December, he helped Kuzbass reach the finals of the Russian Cup, in which they lost to Zenit Kazan 3-2.

“I am not yet ready to say what kind of trauma and for how long Nikitin will be out. We are still waiting for detailed information on it.” Sergei Lomako, Kuzbass’ sports director

Nikitin was in instrumental part of Russia’s squad that won the 2015 FIVB Men’s U23 World Championships. His adequate recovery is key for his chances at continuing his international career with the senior national team.

Nikitin will be joining Olympic Champion middle blocker Nikolai Apalikov in Kuzbass’ injured list. He went down with an injury in early October, as is only expected to come back in late February.

Currently, Kuzbass occupies the 8th place of Russian League’s standings, with an 8-7 record.
