Long Beach State has landed a transfer from the Pac-12 in Tyler Spriggs, an outside hitter previously at Arizona. Spriggs will be a senior for this upcoming season and is immediately eligible for her final year of play.
In her most recent season as a junior with the Wildcats, Spriggs notched 165 kills, good for 2.32 per set – second on the team. She also added 49 digs (0.69 per set) and 26 blocks (0.37 per set). Her career-high in kills also came in the season when she had 21 (along with blocks at five) against New Mexico State on September 15.
In total for her career with Arizona she logged 603 kills (2.23 per set) on a .182 hitting percentage, 144 digs (0.53 per set), 92 blocks (0.34 per set), seven assists and one ace. She was also on the Pac-12 All-Freshman team back in 2015.
Standing at 6’1″, Spriggs is originally from Los Angeles, California where she attended Marymount High School. At the school she was an all-conference performer and team MVP all four years as a varsity player.
“Tyler Spriggs brings us experience in the outside hitter position,” Long Beach State head coach Joy McKienzie-Fuerbringer said in the team’s release of the addition. “She is a spirited leader who motivates her teammates and her coaches. She will make an immediate impact for the Beach.”
Spriggs gives the 49ers seven options at outside hitter for 2018. Long Beach State finished 2017 at 10-19 overall and 7-9 in the Big West.
