Long Beach State sophomore opposite Kyle Ensing collected his first-ever MPSF/Molten Player of the Week honor is was announced by the conference office Monday afternoon. Ensing earned the weekly award after posting a pair of double-figure kill performances as he helped the Beach hand No. 5 Hawaii its first two losses of the season.
In the first win over the Warriors on Jan. 18, Ensing registered a season-high 24 kills, while hitting .404, to go along with 10 digs for his first double-double of the year. He also added four blocks in the Beach’s five-set come-from-behind victory.
Ensing followed that effort with an errorless 11 kills two days later as he notched a .579 attack percentage (11-0-19) in Long Beach State’s three-set sweep over Hawaii.
The Valencia, Calif., native hit .455 on the week (35-5-66) with 12 digs and five total blocks for 37.5 points as he helped LBSU to an overall record of 6-1 and an MPSF mark of 3-1.
On the season, Ensing averages 3.12 kills per set, while hitting .361 (75-19-155). He has also recorded 1.28 digs per set and 0.83 blocks per set.
