LSU volleyball head coach Fran Flory has announced the addition of two women to the program’s staff.

Tania Schatow joins the team as a volunteer assistant and Blaire Hiler has been named director of volleyball operations.

Schatow is a former Tiger who played at LSU for 4 years, including strating in 27 out of 30 matches in her senior season. She ranked 2nd on the team that year with 90 blocks and finished with 222 kills and 163 blocks.

After her college career, Schatow played professionally in Europe for 5 seasons in Belgium and 1 in France – whee she played in the premiere Lige A.

“It is always a wonderful experience to have one of our own return to campus to join our staff,” head coach Fran Flory said. “We are excited to welcome Tania back into our program, after a very successful professional playing career. Tania knows, first hand, what it takes to win in the SEC. Her experience as a professional athlete will be an incredible asset to our program. She will have an immediate impact as she brings great knowledge of our culture and of our system. We look forward to having her in the gym with us again.”

Hiller, who played her collegiate volleyball at Kentucky, will work with both the indoor and beach programs.

Her responsibilities include team travel, team budget, equipment and camps. She will also serve as the program’s liaison in the athletics department. Prior to coming to LSU, she was a project manager for Sam’s Club Corporate, and also spent 3 seasons as the director of volleyball operations at Oregon.

With all of her collegiate experience coming in the SEC, Hiler will be quite familiar with LSU’s regular opponents.

“The opportunity to add Blaire to our staff was something we are beyond excited about,” Flory said. “Her knowledge and experience in this position will be a great asset. She knows what it takes to be successful in the SEC both as a student-athlete and as a staff member. She is an outstanding young professional and she will be an outstanding role model for our student-athletes.”

She was a four-year starter at Kentucky from 2007-2010 and helped the Wildcats to four straight NCAA tournament appearances.

LSU finished 12 out of 13 teams in the SEC last season with a 4-14 conferene record and a 9-20 overall mark. They open their 2017 season on August 25th at the USF Invitational in Tampa with matches against Arkansas Pine Bluff, Northwestern, and USF.
