Mariusz Marcyniak’s successful run with PGE Skra Belchatow has come to an end as he has agreed on a contract to sign with Aluron Virtu Warta. Aluron won an opportunity to play the 2017/2018 season in the PlusLiga, the top league in Poland, by defeating AZS Czestochowa in straight sets early in May of 2017.
The 6’9” (209 cm) middle blocker has played his whole professional career in his home country of Poland. His first two years were with Metro Warszawa, followed by a season with BBTS Bielsko-Biala, and then three years with AZS Czestochowa. The 25 year old moved to Belchatow at the start of the 2015/2016 season and that is when his teams started finding success in the PlusLiga.
In 2016, Belchatow won the Polish Cup defeating ZAKSA Kedzierzen-Kozle in a tight match that ended with a 19-17 fifth set victory for Belchatow. At the 2016 PlusLiga, Belchatow finished the regular season tied for second place which would have earned them a spot in the finals, but a tie-breaker went the way of Rzeszow which sent Belchatow to the bronze medal. Belchatow defeated Gdansk two matches to one to claim the bronze medal.
In April, 2017, Marcyniak helped lead Belchatow to a runner up in the PlusLiga to ZAKSA Kedzierzen-Kozle. The first match was a sweep for Kedzierzen-Kozle followed by a four set win five days later to finish off the playoffs.
Aluron plays its home matches in the city of Zawiercie and was founded in 1972. They had been playing in the Polish Seria B Men’s Volleyball League since 2011.
