2017 EUROPEAN BEACH VOLLEYBALL CHAMPIONSHIPS

The European Beach Volleyball Championships are underway in Latvia, with players like Martins Plavins excited to be playing on their home turf.

To start off the tournament, Plavins and partner Haralds Regza did not show off their top plays, going 1-2 in Pool A. They did redeem themselves as they took down Poland’s Maciej Rudol and Jakub Szalankiewicz in straight sets 2-0, (22-20, 21-17) in the first round of elimination. In the second round of elimination, the duo shocked the #3 Russian pairing of Nikita Liamin and Viacheslav Krasilnikov 2-1, (19-21, 21-16, 15-10) as the #16 squad in the tournament.

Up next, the pair will take on #6 ranked Alexander Brouwer/Robert Meeuwsen in the third phase of elimination.

“Everyone should strive to play their best at every tournament, if not then let someone else play,” said Plavins.

Plavins/Regza are hungry to win medals more than ever, especially now that they have the opportunity to do so in their home country.
