The AVCA has announced their selection for the AVCA Division I-II Men’s Player of the Week as UC Irvine’s Michael Saeta.
This past week the UC Irvine was able to take down all three of their opponents in three set sweeps, including former #1 and undefeated Ohio State. Their other matches of the week included #12 Ball State and Saint Francis.
In their first match against Saint Francis, Saeta was able to put down a perfect five kills on five swings, while dishing out 31 assists, two service aces, two digs and three block assists to help lead the Anteaters to the three set sweep. With his 31 assists, Saeta was able to guide UC Irvine to a .350 hitting percentage.
Against #12 Ball State, Saeta handed out 38 assists, leading the team to a .478 hitting percentage. He also put down three service aces, picked up six digs and one block assist.
Saeta was instrumental in helping the Anteaters down #1 Ohio State in three. He dished out 27 assists, helping the team to a .361 hitting percentage, had two aces and picked up eight digs. Additionally, Saeta was about to put down five kills of his own for a .833 hitting percentage.
Overall for the week, Saeta handed out an average of 10.67 assists per set, leading the team to an overall .400 hitting percentage.
Saeta earns the program’s 29th AVCA Player of the Week honor, with the most recent being Tamir Hershko on February 28th.
