Just days after breaking Missouri State’s career kills record, Lily Johnson surpassed the Missouri Valley Conference all-time career kills record, but now, Johnson has hit another milestone – 2,000 career kills.
Johnson has had quite the career with Missouri State, pounding down balls consistently for the squad since her freshman season. Johnson, just a week after surpassing the MVC career kills mark put down the needed 11 kills against Indiana State to break the 2,000 kills milestone. The 2,000th kill came late in the second set of the match, propelling Johnson into territory not reached by many.
Since then, Johnson has tacked down another 12 kills to her tally, for a total of 2,013 kills.
Over the course of Johnson’s career, she has been a heavy hitter for Missouri State, coming out with a bang in her freshman season with 495 kills for an average of 3.99 kills per set. Since then it has been over 600 kills per season, which is still a long ways to go for Johnson this season – but there is still another two months of play.
Up next for the Bears will be a string of road matches starting with Southern Illinois then Drake. On October 14, Missouri State will travel to UNI to face a strong and building Panthers squad that is now ranked #16 in the VolleyMob weekly rankings and #21 in the AVCA Coaches Rankings.
