Modena’s Urnaut Injured, Stoychev To Return To PalaTrento

Earlier this month, Azimut Modena suddenly stopped playing Slovenian’s Tine Urnaut in their matches due to an undisclosed injury. Urnaut slowly started to creep off the radar following the teams win against Cucine Lube Civitanova on November 5 where Urnaut scored nine points for Modena in their only loss of the year.

It was revealed that Urnaut was injured through an interview with Modena’s head coach Radostin Stoytchev, “For the first time since the start of the season we have been able to work through the typical week though there are still three injured players and this limits us, of course. Urnaut? I do not know yet if he will be available for the match, I await what the doctor will tell me and we will decide together with all of my staff, as always.”

Stoychev and Modena are traveling to Diatec Trentino this weekend for their Round 10 match in the Italian Men’s League, the first time he will be back in PalaTrento since coaching for the team last season. With Trentino, Stoychev collected 15 trophies – four championships, three Italian Cups, four Club World Cups, three Champions League and one Italian Super Cup.

“I never expected to face Trentino sitting on the bench of another Italian team after so many years and so many emotions lived in that reality. We have already dealt with them in the Super Cup, but we were not at PalaTrento, the match on Sunday will be a very different match and it will be really strange to enter that place as an opponent.”

On the year, Urnaut has been the second outside hitter for the squad, coming behind Earvin Ngapeth – contributing steady number in the first five weeks of the season. Urnaut captained the Slovenian men’s team this summer at the 2017 World League where he led the squad to the gold medal in Group 2.

Urnaut’s Point Contribution For Modena

  • vs. BCC Castellana Grotte – 11 points
  • at Biosi Indexa Sora – 14 points
  • vs. Gi Group Monza – 10 points
  • vs. Wixo LPR Piacenza – 9 points
  • at Calzedonia Verona – 12 points
  • vs. Cucine Lube Civitanova – nine points
  • at Top Volley Latina – 0 points
  • vs. Revivre Milano – 0 points
  • at Vibo Valentia – 0 points

The match against Trentino will be a big matchup for Modena, though Trentino has struggled for most of the season and sit back in 8th place in the league while Modena sits in third.
