Myanmar Sweeps Way to SEA Games Semifinals Spot

Men’s Pool A

Myanmar def. Cambodia 3-0 (25-12, 25-20, 25-18)

 

Men’s Pool B

Philippines def. Timor-Leste 3-0 (25-13, 25-18, 25-11)

 

Myanmar cemented its spot as the second place team in Pool A with a sweep of Cambodia. Meanwhile, the Philippines defeated Timor-Leste in an inconsequential match in Pool B, which gave the team its first victory of the SEA Games.

Myanmar will take on Pool B winners Indonesia on Saturday, while Pool A winners Thailand will battled Vietnam in the semifinals.

Thailand are the three-time defending champs, while Vietnam was the runnerup in 2015.

 

Women’s Pool A

Indonesia def. Myanmar 3-0 (25-12, 25-13, 25-7)

 

Women’s Pool B

Vietnam def. Philippines 3-0 (26-24 ,25-12, 25-23)

 

Indonesia earned its way to the semifinals with its first victory of the SEA Games, sweeping Indonesia in Pool A for second place in the group. Vietnam secured its spot atop Pool B with a sweep of the Philippines.

Vietnam will face Indonesia in Saturday’s semifinals, while Thailand will battle the Philippines in the other match.

Thailand is on a quest for its 11-straight SEA Games title, while Vietnam has been runner up in the last eight events.
