New Brazilian men’s coach Renan dal Zotto has called up defender Mauricio Souza and libero Tiago Brendel as the first members of his squad for the FIVB World League that runs from June 2nd-July 8th.

Both players spent last season with Vôlei Brasil Kirin, but both have already transferred to Superliga B champions Sesc for next season, along with 4 other Brazilian stars. Both players have already completed their 2016-2017 Superliga seasons after their team was eliminated by powerhouses Cruzeiro in the championship semi-finals.

In addition, dal Zotto has called 12 players to a training camp this weekend at the Centro de Desenvolvimento de Voleibol in Saquarema Rio de Janeiro.

  • Murilo Radke, setter
  • Thiaguinho, setter
  • Flávio, middle blocker
  • Wennder, middle blocker
  • Thiago Barth, middle blocker
  • João Rafael, outside hitter
  • Allison Melo, outside hitter
  • Rafael Araújo, opposite
  • Renan Buiatti, opposite
  • Luan Weber, opposite
  • Thales, libero
  • Felipe, libero

This is the first step for dal Zotto in assembling his team for this summer’s Champions Cup, South American Championships, and the first challenge – the World League. So far, the 14 players included in this weekend’s camp are those who are finished with play in the Superliga or their respective professional championships abroad. That means only a few players from the Olympic champion team last summer are included in the initial tryout, excluding players like Olympic captain Bruno Rezende and Rio MVP Sergio Santos. 25-year old outside hitter Riacrdo Souza, who will surely be a member of this summer’s Brazilian squad, is also not attending the camp.
