The University of New Orleans beach volleyball team added some firepower for the 2018 campaign as Canadian standout Ally Carr signed a National Letter of Intent to play for the Privateers, UNO head coach Millicent Van Norden announced on Wednesday afternoon.

The 5-foot-7 native of Shedden, Ontario, joins the Privateer outdoor program out of Parkside Collegiate Institute where she was voted team captain and MVP each year while helping lead the school’s indoor team to a Thames Volley Regional Athletics Conference title all four seasons.

“Ally is a dynamic and explosive athlete who I believe will make an immediate impact on our program,” Van Norden said. “She had several options for her collegiate career, and she and her family believe in the vision we have set for our program and see how well she fits at New Orleans. She is a dynamic attacker and quick defender. I look forward to the many great things to come for our program with Ally as a part of it.”

A four-year letterwinner for coaches Nancy Scidmore and Sarah Littlejohn, Carr helped PCI win section and regional championships as a sophomore and junior, and a regional runner-up showing as a senior. In her final prep campaign, she averaged 8.8 kills, 8.5 assists, 9.4 digs, 4.5 service aces and 3.4 blocks per match while hitting a robust .485.

The school’s Athlete of the Year as a junior, Carr also played four years of club volleyball, suiting up for the Zephyr Beach Volleyball Club from 2013-14, London Volleyball Club in 2014 and Forest City Volleyball Club from 2015-16. Named team captain and MVP both seasons with FCVC, Carr won 12-of-14 beach tournaments to date, including gold-medal fishes at the 2013 and 2014 Provincial Championship and the 2014 AAU U.S. Midwest Open-MJVBA Beach Volleyball Championship to qualify for that year’s Junior Olympic Games. She also posted a fifth-place finish at the 2016 OVA Provincial Championship.

Carr won five gold medals on the OVA Beach Tour in 2014 en route to earning the No. 1 provincial ranking, and claimed three more in 2013. She participated in the NCAA Beach Volleyball Showcase in 2016 while taking part in the OVA 18U Girls Grand Prix, Kentucky Bluegrass Open and OVR National Challenge in 2017.

In addition to her time on the court and the dunes, Carr also lettered in cross, country, lacrosse, field hockey, badminton and track and field. She set Parkside records in the high jump and long jump while representing the school at the OFSAA each year in the high jump, long jump, 400-meter dash and hurdles.

Carr earned dozens of gold medals as a gymnast on bars, vault, floor, beam and all-around from 2008-11, including the Provincial Gold in 2011, and helped the St. Thomas Shock win Provincial Golds in basketball in 2011 and 2012.

Away from her respective fields of play, Carr was a four-year member of the Student Athletic Association – serving as vice president as a junior and president as a senior – and the Honor Roll, served as a peer tutor, and was selected to represent her prep team at the OELC Leadership Camp. She also received 2016 SportsXPress Community Athletic Scholarship for excellence in athletics and community service.
