Nina Sharpton has decided to enroll early at NC State after signing her National Letter of Intent in November. She will begin classes and workouts with the team this spring semester in preparation for the 2018 fall season.

Sharpton is a 5’10” setter out of Palm Beach, Florida who finished up her senior season with Park Vista Community High School by earning 9A First Team All-Palm Beach honors. She ended the season with a total of 442 assists, 87 digs, 64 blocks and 18 aces, also being tabbed as one of the nation’s top recruits coming out of high school.

In her prep days, Sharpton competed for USA Volleyball and helped Team Florida USA High Performance team to a 2014 National Championship. Additionally, Sharpton led her team to the 2015 AAU National Championship in the 15 Open division and a third-place finish at the 2015 Girls’ Junior National Championships.

“Nina will add a lot of depth to our setter position and the true benefit of enrolling early is that she’ll get acclimated to college, get some training under her belt in the weight room and get used to the culture of our program and how we do things,” said head coach Linda Hampton-Keith.

Another big thing for Sharpton coming in early is that she will learn from Kylie Pickrell, an AVCA honorable mention selection for the 2017 season. Pickrell dished out 1,301 assists on the year, leading the ACC.

This season, NC State advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament after defeating Oregon State in a five-set thriller before falling to Texas in straight sets to end their season.
