The Bobcats of Texas State have added a highly prestigious transfer from the junior college ranks in the form of Halee Brewer. The former NJCAA All-American will come in as a junior and have two years left of eligibility at Texas State.

A 5’11” middle blocker, Brewer attended Tyler Junior College the past two years. She racked up 816 kills, 221 blocks and 116 digs in her 65 career matches. In just 2016 when she was a NJCAA Second Team All-American, she ranked ninth in the country in points (561), 10th in kills (468), 11th in blocks (142) and 16th in hitting percentage (.345).

Prior to her stint at the junior college level, Brewer spent four years at Longview High School. She now will be about a five hour drive south in her first year with a Texas State team that won 21 games a season ago.

Texas State has had difficulties the last three years getting over the hump. They concluded their year, as they have the last three, with a loss in the semifinal (or championship) round of the Sun Belt tournament. They last conquered the competition in 2013, when they won 24 matches and made the NCAA Tournament. With a program that’s been steadily around the 20-win mark of late, adding a former NJCAA All-American in Brewer should help Texas State maintain and rise above their current level of play.
