Summer Ross/Brooke Sweat Take First AVP Title of 2017 at Seattle Open

AVP SEATTLE OPEN

Summer Ross and Brooke Sweat grabbed their first AVP title of the season with a 21-17, 24-22 win over Betsi Flint and Kelley Larsen on Sunday.

Ross/Sweat, which were runners up at the New York City Open June 11, worked their way through five straight set wins en route to the title in Seattle.

The No. 2 seed Ross/Sweat downed No. 15 Camie Manwill/Maria Clara Salgado (21-6, 21-14) in Round 1, No.7 Kelly Claes/Sara Hughes (21-17, 21-19) in Round 2, No. 6 seed Jen Fopma/Kelly Reeves (24-22, 2-14) in Round 3, and No. 16 seed Skylar Caputo/Sarah Pavan in the semifinals (21-11, 21-17).

No. 4 seed Flint/Larsen’s path to the final also came in a direct route with straight set wins over No. 13 Aurora Davis/Bree Scarbrough (21-11, 21-14), No. 12 Janelle Allen/Briana Hinga (21-14, 21-19), and No. 1 Lane Carico/Lauren Fendrick (21-14, 24-22). In the semifinals, the duo got past Fopma/Reeves 21-14, 21-16.

Next up on the AVP slate is the San Francisco Open, July 6-9.
