GREENSBORO, N.C. – Notre Dame’s Charley Niego has been named ACC Volleyball Player and Freshman of the Week, the first volleyball student-athlete to earn the distinction since at least 2010.
Niego helped the Irish to a 2-0 weekend, with wins over Clemson and Georgia Tech. The rookie outside hitter from Chicago posted 4.50 kills, 3.00 digs and 1.25 blocks per set on the weekend. Niego racked up 36 total kills on a hitting percentage of .306, 24 total digs, and five total blocks across the two matches.
In a Friday match against Clemson, Niego turned in a 13-kill, 11-dig double-double, while hitting .345. Against Georgia Tech, the rookie posted 23 kills, 13 digs and three blocks, while hitting at a .288 clip.
